Thundermeek

Guitarist who works in the jazz field and in music production. Founding member of the “Barrio Jazz Gang” together with Rob Colella, he has 2 CD albums and an EP with this band. In addition to collaborating with leading names on the Italian jazz scene (Massimo Urbani, Valter Martino, Massimo Manzi, Marcello Rosa, etc.) he has had frequent experiences with overseas musicians, with Mike Mainieri, George Garzone, Benny Maupin, Harvie Swartz and Eddie Henderson, with whom he also recorded CDs and participated in the largest jazz festivals on the peninsula (Roccella Ionica, Verona Jazz), and others. Among his stints in the television field are Garda che Musical (Raidue), Notti Sul Ghiaccio (Rai1), Reality Circus (Canale5), Let’s say I was: the Virginia Raffaele show (Rai2). For several years he has combined his work as a guitarist with that of a producer for the Funky Juice label with an international catchment area (England, Hong Kong, United States, Australia, Japan, etc.). In this dual capacity he appears in his Dynamic 4 project, which saw the CD “My Favorite Beats” also released in Japan on the historic Columbia-Jazz label (Sony). He signs the production and composition of the song “Reflejo de luna” by the group ALACRAN contained in the soundtrack of John Turturro’s film “Fading gigolo” with Woody Allen. Currently, together with the trombonist arranger Mario Corvini, he is the leader of the “Brit in jazz” quartet which revisits the best songs of English pop-rock in a very personal way. In the field of guitar teaching Micarelli is the author of the manual on jazz improvisation for guitar “The genesis of phrasing” for the Sinfonica publishing house and of three educational videos for Playgame music.
He has published an interactive multimedia course on jazz guitar for the Groovefy platform. He is a collaborator of various books and methods for Ricordi, Muzzio, Arcana, and has worked since 1989 with the monthly magazine Chitarre (columns and transcriptions). He teaches at the Percentomusica school (of which he is a founding member) and at the Licinio Refice conservatory in Frosinone (jazz guitar chair).
