“Leave all bad things behind”
“Leave all bad things behind” is the title of the Blackshapes’ first album.
Obviously it is not always easy to leave behind intoxicating thoughts, memories that bring us back to frustration, but it is the only way that allows us to live the present breathing deeply, without shadows and without regrets. Music comes to our aid, a wonderful moment of sharing that can be eternal in our heads, if only we know how to give it the right value. Those notes, those pressing rhythms have always been the oldest medicine for our hearts. This is why I write music, for me writing means creating a world where artists and listeners can meet and exchange experiences… without constraints, in a pure way. I write out of need, not to boost my ego.
In this I had many teachers, blues icons like B.B. King, AlbertCollins, Muddy Waters have accompanied me since I was a child, then came Soul and then came Funk; artists like Rufus Thomas, James Brown, The Meters, Al Green, Ray Charles, Bill Withers, Maceo Parker, Herbie Hancock….have definitely marked my path. Many tracks in this work refer to the vintage sound of those years, drawing inspiration from it for arrangements and melodies created today, in 2018.
Past and present therefore come together in the name of Funk! “Leave all bad things behind” is a simple album all in all, full of joy and hope, in a world where a lot is built on paper. Blackshapes wanted to give a different perspective, demonstrating that soul music is still alive, that the art of giving light to one’s most intimate feelings is still standing.
